Born and raised in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Lisa has deep roots in the community and is proud to have headquartered her family's practice there. Early Inspiration and Educational Journey

Lisa's journey in law began with an unlikely source of inspiration – the television show "Perry Mason." As a young child, she was captivated by Perry Mason's ability to find the truth and solve complex cases. This early fascination with the legal world set her on the path to becoming an attorney. 

For her undergraduate education, Lisa chose to attend Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she pursued a bachelor's degree in government. The vibrant campus and intellectual discourse at Harvard deeply appealed to her, and it was an opportunity to experience a new and different place. 

Lisa's pursuit of legal knowledge led her to The University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas, where she earned her law degree. Though it was a significant change from the cooler Massachusetts climate, Lisa embraced the unique Texas vibe and thrived in this environment. 

Diverse Legal Experience

Lisa's legal career has been marked by diverse experiences that have enriched her understanding of the law and its various facets. She began her legal journey by gaining experience in government contract law at a private firm in San Antonio, Texas. This early exposure helped lay the foundation for her future career. 

Upon moving to Washington, D.C., in the late 1980s, Lisa joined the Beltway firm Spriggs & Hollingsworth. Her focus on government contracts continued to sharpen, and she established herself as a formidable attorney in the field. 

In 1992, Lisa took on a new role as General Counsel for Experience Works (formerly Green Thumb), a non-profit organization dedicated to providing training and employment search services to the elderly. Her work at Experience Works allowed her to make a meaningful impact on the lives of seniors and further broadened her legal expertise. 

In 1998, Lisa made a pivotal decision to join her husband Norman at his private practice in Upper Marlboro. This move marked the beginning of a thriving family law practice that continues to serve the community to this day. In 2006, Lisa achieved a significant milestone when she was nominated and sworn into the United States Supreme Court Bar Association.

Community Involvement and Personal Interests 

Outside of her legal career, Lisa remains deeply connected to her community and engages in various activities that reflect her passion for making a positive difference. She is a dedicated member of the Board of Trustees of the Calvert Marine Museum and serves as Counsel to the Calvert County Board of Appeals. Her commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion is evident in her role as a member and previous board member of the Calvert Minority Business Alliance. 

Lisa's personal interests are as diverse as her legal experiences. She is an avid cook and baker, and she loves to create delicious dishes and treats for family and friends. She also enjoys cosplay and enthusiastically participates in the Maryland Renaissance Festival. Her creative side extends to dance as well, with Lisa taking adult jazz, tap, and hip-hop classes. Lisa even has a unique hobby of historical fencing reenactment, showcasing her skills as a swordswoman.
